If I would like to fly only autonomous flights, is the transmitter / receiver still required?

Technically it is not needed, but practically and legally it probably is. In most places there are regulations that govern the safe operation of a drone. Although they might not state you have to have manual control, practically manual controls are needed to take over a flight that is out of control or unsafe. How would you avoid a fly away or if people suddenly enter your flight environment? What if your autonomous drone is headed into an obstacle? You could be prosecuted if there was an injury due to your inability to control your drone.
